About Kottab Institute

“The Qur'an was revealed for all people, not for Arabs alone, so every child deserves to understand what they recite.”

Why Kottab exists

01

Understanding, not only reciting

Many children learn to recite the Qur’an without understanding the words. The Qur’an was revealed for all people, not for Arabs alone. KOTTAB INSTITUTE exists so children can understand what they recite, one word and one meaning at a time.

02

A name rooted in learning

A kuttab is a traditional neighbourhood Qur’an school: a place where generations of children first learnt to read. Kottab carries that tradition into live online lessons, connecting families with teachers in Egypt.

03

The Kottab system

Written lesson standards give each session a clear structure. Supervised teachers receive observations and feedback. Parents receive a three-part report: today’s win, where we’re still working, and one thing to do at home. Meaning is taught alongside memorisation.

04

Our teachers

Our teachers are native Arabic speakers from Egypt, with Al-Azhar graduates among them. Selection includes a recitation assessment, a teaching demonstration for non-Arabic speakers and a safeguarding interview. Teachers are trained and regularly observed against written criteria.

05

An institute across borders

KOTTAB INSTITUTE is registered in the United States. Our teachers are in Egypt, and our families are in the US, UK, Canada, Europe and Australia. Lessons and booking times are shown in each family’s local time zone.
